Contraception
We have many years of experience in advising women on which forms of birth control is the best for their lifestyles and preferences.
In addition to birth control pills, we offer several temporary forms of birth control that are effective for up to five years, including:
ParaGard This intrauterine copper contraceptive has been used by millions of women over the past 20 years. Inserted in the comfort of our practice, ParaGard is a hormone- free contraceptive solution that is long-term (up to 5 or 10 years) but is easily reversible and over 99% effective. ParaGard works primarily by preventing sperm from reaching the egg and fertilizing it.
Mirena is an intrauterine contraceptive that works by delivering small amounts of hormone directly into the uterus. Made of soft, flexible plastic, it is put in place during an office visit. It is over 99% effective and prevents pregnancy for as long as you want, for up to 5 years.
Many of our patients’ health insurance plans will cover the costs of ParaGard and Mirena.
If you are finished with your family and looking for a permanent form of sterilization, you may want to consider the Essure procedure. Essure is performed in the comfort of our office and therefore requires no hospital time and almost no downtime, unlike other procedures for permanent sterilization.
Please note that none of these forms of contraception protect against sexually transmitted diseases.
