At Santa Fe Ob/Gyn’s Medical Weight Loss Program, a medical provider will work to customize a weight-loss program just for you. Our patients can choose from different programs, which may include a medically-supervised food plan, appetite management, lifestyle and motivational coaching and science-based activity recommendations.
Each new patient starts with an initial consultation, which includes:
- A body composition scale analysis, which provides information on weight, body composition, and projected weight loss under the various programs,
- A discussion with a medical provider about your weight loss goals, your current physical condition, medical history and medications, and which program(s) would be most appropriate for you,
- If you decide to join one of the weight-loss programs, a physical exam.
Appetite Suppressant: Some of our patients may prefer starting with an appetite suppressant prescribed and monitored by one of our medical providers. If this is your preferred program, the physical exam included in your initial consultation will be done to make sure this is safe for your physical condition, and follow-visits will be scheduled to monitor the effectiveness of this program. For the convenience of our patients, we can dispense our prescription appetite-suppressants here at our office.
All our programs include a review of your current medications to determine any adjustments that may be necessary to assist with your weight loss program or for reduced weight or caloric intake.
Why is a medically supervised weight loss program so important?
Medical weight loss is faster and safer than standard diets because you are under the care of a medical provider throughout the course of your treatment. Weight loss physicians can use medications and diet tools not available in commercial or self-directed diets. As weight loss occurs, many patients may need and want adjustments to their existing drugs (e.g. reductions in medications for diabetic patients). Additionally, many patients may be on medications that contribute to weight gain issues, and these may be substituted for a better option. We will coordinate medication dosing with your primary care physician. The extensive experience of physicians in counseling their patients over the years also make them very qualified for the behavioral counseling that is very important in CMWL’s program for long-term patient success.
How do I start and how much does the program cost?
Patients will initially see Nurse Practitioner Rebecca Fredman, AGNP-C for an initial consultation to determine the patient’s objectives, body composition and physical condition. We will then review with the patient the weight loss programs that are most appropriate, their cost, and a projection of how much weight the patient can expect to lose.
Do I have to be extremely overweight to consider Medical Weight Loss? What if I only need to lose 10-15 pounds?
Programs are not simply for people who are extremely overweight, but are for anyone who is unhappy or feels unhealthy due to their weight. We will tell you if you don’t need to lose weight or if you don’t qualify for our weight loss programs for any reason. Our first priority is your overall health and well-being.
“My Center for Medical Weight Loss experience has been wonderful! I’ve never been successful at dieting and my weight was beginning to affect my health. After 6 months, I am now healthy and have more energy! Working with a team that I feel comfortable with has been vital to my success. I was able to fit the Center for Medical Weight Loss programs into my busy lifestyle of a manager, wife and mother of two elementary school children. And when I go off the program, I feel comfortable in my ability to maintain my weight loss.“
— Diane (who lost 50 pounds)
“I just don’t know where I would be had I not found the Center for Medical Weight Loss. I answered their ad not expecting it would be so much better than a diet I tried years ago. We all agreed my goal would be to lose 125 pounds (yes, I started at my worst.) I must mention I have been on every diet known to man, now nothing works like when I was younger! I had been overcome with stiffness and pain from a couple of chronic illnesses. I started in at the lowest level they had and I have now lost 55 pounds. Everyone I have met, with no exception, have been super helpful and encouraging…I would recommend the Center for Medical Weight Loss in Santa Fe without hesitation. There are so many options that they have something for everyone.“
