Mirena also treats heavy periods in women who choose intrauterine contraception. Skyla is a skinnier version of Mirena that lasts for 3 years and is often the IUD we choose to place if you have never had children as the cervix has never been dilated and it is easier and more comfortable to insert the Skyla. Everyone is different, and some women may experience discomfort or spotting during and after placement. These symptoms should go away shortly. If they don’t, contact your healthcare provider, as Mirena/Skyla may not have been properly placed.
